    Very youthful colour, deep and dense with almost purple hue. Quintessential Rubicon nose with violets, ripe plum, cedar wood, fennel, and intense spiciness. Typical liquorice notes also evident on the nose. Still young and intense, the palate is full bodied, structured but packed with fresh dark fruit and rounded tannins and seamlessly integrated oak.

    Once a classic, always a classic

    It's been the classic South African red for decades, and this one did not disappoint. Probably should have let it mature for a couple of years more, since the tannins are still pronounced, yet the Merlot's blackberry notes provided substantial yet softening flavour. After a decade in the bottle I'm sure the Cabernet would calm down a bit and reveal more of its secrets. I knew I had to get a case of Merlot too....
